NEURO-MEDITATIVE DANCE (NMD)
One of the most supportive practices within the entire framework of Thriveapeutics is Neuro-Meditative Dance (NMD). Do not let the term "dance" scare you. What qualifies this approach as a dance is the fact that music is used. Music is a very effective medium for evoking different brain states. The quality of the music varies tremendously. This means that the movements vary based on an individual's relationship to the resonance of the music.
A highly conscious, very integrative practice, NMD goes through an entire in-depth process involving many different phases. Beginning with a warm-up, moving into the dance itself, and concluding with a cool down, NMD ushers people to connect with each specific phase, thereby maximizing its benefits. The dance itself varies based on a wide variety of themes. Moving in direct ways that both express and represent different themes has a fantastic effect on the brain.
Each phase as well as the bridges in between have a different objective. The dance, therefore, becomes a story unfolding. Some phases are more obvious than others. The warm-up phase, for example, loosens the body and allows the body to get acclimated to moving deliberately. The music of the warm-up phase is very chill and centering. The initiation phase is the dance itself. This is where the theme comes into the dance. The most important bridging phase comes immediately after the theme. This intermediate phase involves slowing down. Again, the music changes to support the objectives of each phase and bridging phase. After slowing down, the initiation is complete. From there, we move into the integrative phase. This includes both the cool down and the stillness. After the entire NMD is complete, we incorporate the wisdom of Practical Integration.
With the endless variable of themes and types of music, NMD packs a tremendous amount of mystery revealing itself. The non-predictability of NMD adds both an element of excitement and intrigue. The many different types of music and themes keep this practice from being routine. The brain loves novelty and newness. Combine that with movements that represent specific themes and you have a practice that promises to deliver great results for many years to come.
Check out the links below to learn more about those aspects of NMD. If you would like to learn about NMD through a video converstaion, the link to that video is here. If you would like to explore NMD at home, a video here offers a musical track that provides a good representation of NMD. The theme for this NMD specifically is InTouchNess.
