REVERENCE POSTURE

"I bow to you." Hands in prayer position. Where you place your hands on your body changes the resonance for the receiver. With your hands on your chest before you bow, captures the most classic form of acknowledgement. The modifiers in this position are eyes opened and making eye contact with the person or eyes closed. Eyes open is better for helping a person feel you. Eyes closed is better for a person to receive only the gesture. Also, you can look straight ahead (neck not bent) with eyes open or closed. This adds an energy of strength and power with the recognition. Neck bent before the bow adds an energy of humble gentleness with the recognition.

Try different hand positionings and see which ones represent reverence and recognition better for you. Notice, also, the changes in the energy you are transmitting in each position. With your prayer hands over your mouth (thumbs under the chin), you convey that your acknowledgemnt comes from a strong feeling for you, meaning words are inadequate. With the prayer hands over your third eye, you are conveying your intention that the reverence is coming from a higher place.

The family of words that can travel with the word "reverence" can include, respect, deep respect, acknowledgement, recognition, I see you, gratitude, thankfulness, gratefulness, an act of kindness, recognizing the sacred and the holy within the individual, an act of sanctification, an offering of support, and that beautiful list goes on and on. This is such a powerful posture that you can try the different positions and modifiers and see how they feel for you. Do that first, without looking in the mirror. Afterward, try those same positions and modifiers while looking in the mirror and see what the person in the mirror is receiving. That, too, will help you decide what positions and modifiers are best considering the situation, which includes the person you are recognizing and what you would like that recognition to convey.

Lastly, pay attention to the actual bowing as you deliver it. The main variables and are speed, depth, and duration, meaning how long you stay in the bowed position. If you deliver the bow quickly, the acknowledgement is like giving a quick nod. That may be more appropriate given the person to whom you are offering acknowledgement. For some people, receiving this gesture can feel awkward for them. Others will appreciate it. Again, consider these variables. Pay close attention. Meet the conditions so well that the quality of this posture conveys what you would like it to convey.
